617-2862: Aftercooler Core

An Aftercooler Core is used to cool the compressed air before it enters the Engine's intake manifold. It consists of a network of tubes and fins, to maximize the surface area for heat transfer. When hot compressed air flows through the Core, heat is transferred from the Air to the walls of the tubes. The fins enhance the heat transfer process by increasing the contact area between the Air and the tube walls, thus maximizing cooling efficiency. The heat transferred from the Air is then dissipated to the ambient Air as it passes over the fins.
