571-1511: Air Conditioner

An Air Conditioner consists of a compressor, condenser, evaporator, and expansion valve. The compressor compresses the refrigerant gas, which increases its temperature and pressure. The hot, high-pressure refrigerant gas then flows to the condenser, where it cools down and condenses into a liquid. The liquid refrigerant then flows to the expansion valve, where it is rapidly expanded, which causes it to cool down and evaporate. The cold, low-pressure refrigerant gas then flows to the evaporator, where it absorbs heat from the air passing over it. This cools the air and dehumidifies it, as the water vapor in the air condenses on the evaporator coils.
