The General Duty Charging Alternator converts mechanical energy from the engine into electrical energy. It consists of a rotor, stator, and diode rectifier. When the engine runs, a belt connected to the engine's crankshaft rotates the alternator's pulley, spinning the rotor inside the stator, which produces an alternating current. The diode rectifier then converts this alternating current into direct current, which charges the battery and powers the electrical systems when the engine is operating.
