An Engine Sensor Mounting Plate Gasket is a flat piece made from a resilient material. It fits snugly between the engine block and the sensor mounting plate. The sensor mounting plate bolts onto the engine block, and the sensor itself screws into the mounting plate. The gasket creates a watertight and pressure-tight seal around the mounting plate, preventing leaks from the engine block's coolant passages or oil galleries.
