The Deflector Extender plate is positioned in front of the tamper in a road-finishing machine. Its primary function is to direct the excess paving material that is squeezed up in front of the tamper. By guiding the material, the deflector plate helps to prevent it from sticking to other parts of the machine and ensures a continuous flow of material. The deflector plate imparts a rolling motion to the mass of paving material ahead of the tamper.
