520-1397: Exhaust Manifold

An Exhaust Manifold is responsible for collecting and channeling exhaust gases from the engine cylinders into the exhaust system. The manifold is directly mounted to the engine cylinder head, making it an integral part of the engine. When the engine's exhaust stroke occurs, combustion by-products and unburned fuel are expelled from each cylinder as high-temperature, high-pressure exhaust gases. These gases are directed into the exhaust manifold through individual ports or runners.
