An Engine Oil Heater is used to heat the engine oil before starting the engine. It consists of an electric heating element enclosed in a housing. The heating element is often silicone-based or uses other resistant materials. The heater is installed in direct contact with the oil, either in the oil pan or in an oil gallery in the engine block. It features an O-ring which helps to minimize the leaks at the heater connection point in the engine oil system.
Attributes:
• Mitigates the negative effects of extremely cold ambient temperatures on engine oil
• Reduces oil viscosity allows for smoother cranking and reduces starter motor strain
Applications:
An Engine Oil Heater is connected to an electrical power source and generates heat, which is transferred to the engine oil. The heat raises the temperature of the oil, reducing its viscosity and making it easier to circulate through the engine.
