The Piston Motors have pistons that reciprocate in an axial direction. The motion of the pistons is either inline or bent-axis. In inline-piston motors, the cylinder block and driveshaft are centered on the same axis. Pressure at the ends of the pistons causes a reaction against a tilted swashplate, resulting in the rotation of the cylinder block and driveshaft. Bent-axis piston motors have the cylinder block and driveshaft mounted at an angle to each other. The reaction force is against the driveshaft flange. Axial-piston motors offer excellent high-speed capabilities and are suitable for applications that require high rotational speeds.

The Piston Motor is used to convert hydraulic fluid pressure into mechanical force in the Final Drive.
