REQUIRED For Replacement labeled Engines, Long Blocks, and short blocks sold within the U.S. and U.S. Territories the engine core (i.e. old engine) that is removed MUST be returned to your selling Caterpillar dealer, so that they can return to Caterpillar  OR  destroy, as required by law. Proof of return or destruction will then be provided to the EPA and or California ARB if required. See PELJ1301 for additional details.

A Cylinder Engine Block provides structural integrity and housing internal components. It contains cylindrical bores where pistons move up and down during the combustion cycle. These cylinders are used to ensure proper piston movement and sealing. The cylinder block also features mounting points for attaching the cylinder head, which houses the valves and camshaft, as well as the crankshaft, which converts reciprocating motion into rotational motion. The block contains passages for coolant circulation to dissipate heat generated during combustion and lubrication channels to ensure proper oil distribution to engine components.
