A Thumb Cylinder Piston is used to control the movement of the thumb. The piston has a series of grooves on its surface. The grooves are used to contain the fluid that is used to power the piston. The piston is attached to a connecting rod, which in turn is attached to a thumb linkage. When the fluid is pressurized, it enters the cylinder and pushes the piston down. The connecting rod then converts the linear motion of the piston into the rotary motion of the thumb linkage. This causes the thumb to close. To open the thumb, the fluid is released from the cylinder. This allows the piston to move up, which causes the thumb to open.
