A Telescoping Cylinder Counterbalance Valve is used to control the descent speed of the load and prevent uncontrolled dropping or free-falling. When the hydraulic unit is not actively engaged or the load is in the descending phase, the counterbalance valve opens to allow the oil from the rod end of the cylinder to flow back into the hydraulic reservoir. This controlled flow of oil creates resistance against the descending load, regulating its speed and preventing sudden drops.
