The Current Transformer measures the magnitude of alternate currents flowing through a circuit. Bypassing the current-carrying conductor through the primary winding of the transformer induces a proportional current in the secondary winding, which is then used for measurement or monitoring purposes. This allows for easier and safer measurement of high currents by reducing the current levels to a manageable range for instruments.
Attributes:
• Ambient temperature range -30 to 85°C and frequency range 50-60 Hz
• Provide galvanic isolation between the primary circuit (where the high currents are flowing) and the secondary circuit (where the measurement devices are connected)
Applications:
The Current Transformer provides signals to protective relays, which can initiate appropriate actions such as tripping circuit breakers to prevent damage to electrical components.
