Compression springs are coil springs that hold mechanical energy in their compressed states. Compression springs are open-coil helical springs that resist compressive forces as they are applied to them. When a heavy object or force is applied to the spring, it condenses, storing the force until it is eventually released. They are open-coil helical springs wound or constructed to oppose compression along the axis of wind. Helical Compression is the most common metal spring configuration. These coil springs can work independently, though often assembled over a guide rod or fitted inside a hole.
