A compression spring come in a variety of strengths and sizes to fit specific applications. Compression springs are helical designed springs for compression and tension whereby the spring gets compressed (shorter) as more weight is applied. One of the biggest benefits of compression springs is the ability to resist the movement of another component. This feature makes a very tiny compression spring integral in the internal construction and function of the gauge. They are open-coil helical springs wound or constructed to oppose compression along the axis of wind. Helical Compression is the most common metal spring configuration. These coil springs can work independently, though often assembled over a guide rod or fitted inside a hole.
